Ankle Fracture

Ankle fractures typically occur after an injury such as direct blow, twisting, or fall and can result in severe pain, swelling and bruising. With any ankle injury it is common to get x-rays to determine the extent of injury. Sometimes further testing such as MRI or CT is necessary. Imaging studies will help to determine treatment plans. In the case of stable, non-displaced fractures casting may be sufficient. Unstable, displaced fractures usually warrant surgical intervention.
