Ulcers/Wounds

Wounds may result from trauma and must be appropriately cleaned and treated to prevent infection and reduce scarring as well as possible impairment of function.

Ulcers can have a variety of causes but often are related to diabetes, poor circulation, or excessive swelling due to venous impairment. At VP foot and Ankle we have extensive experience treating chronic wounds of all types and can implement advanced biologics and advanced topical medications to improve healing. At times surgical intervention may be warrented to treat the underlying cause and other times surgical cleaning of the wound is warrented to reduce pain for the patient and speed the healing rate. At VP foot and ankle we work closely with primary doctors and other specialities to provide a complete approach to chronic wound healing. We also work closely with Thorek Memorial Hospital and their hyperbaric oxygen medicine program which may be implamented in the treatment of chronic wounds when appropriate.
